Simon Prins' Biography

Simon Prins is a widely recognized author, speaker, and innovator in the realm of animal behaviorism and training. With over 25 years of enriching experience, Simon has pioneered the fields of robotics, sensors, and canine abilities. His unique expertise has equipped countless special unit dogs and their trainers across the globe, underscoring his steadfast belief in the transformative power of science to optimize our interactions with animals.

In an impressive display of multitasking and dedication, Simon, while serving as an operator in the special operations unit of the Dutch police, also spent more than six years at The Netherlands National Detection and Tracking Dog School. Here, he made a substantial contribution by training dogs in all detection disciplines, including tracking. His groundbreaking work in developing hard surface tracking protocols has made a lasting impact on the industry, transforming traditional methods and significantly improving tracking effectiveness.

As an innovator, Simon has designed and manufactured specialized K9 training products that have reshaped canine training practices. One of his flagship inventions is the ACT! Smart Wheel, an innovative tool that revolutionizes scent detection training by combining traditional canine scent detection techniques with advanced sensor technology.

Simon's illustrious career began in 1989 with hunting dog training, eventually leading him to become one of the youngest patrol dog handlers in the police force. In 1996, he established an innovative K9 Research & Development project, effectively revolutionizing the integration of K9 units in covert operations. Over the past 25 years, Simon has deployed these highly trained dogs in countless operations, while leading the development of programs for hard surface tracking, laser-guided attack dogs, and specialized detection dogs.

In 2002, Simon initiated USAR, a dedicated search and rescue operation involving 16 dogs and their handlers, personally trained by him. His innovative approach scaled new heights in 2006 when he began merging dogs and electronics, thus enabling radio-directional dogs to carry small robots into operations using sensor-fitted gear.

Simon is not only an accomplished animal trainer but also a prolific writer, having penned numerous training protocols and books. He champions operant conditioning techniques over traditional punitive training methods and is a fervent proponent of the feedforward coaching approach. His workshops are immersive, hands-on experiences, empowering trainers to directly apply the knowledge they've gained in the classroom, thus effectively planting the seeds for their future success.

Currently, Simon leads his own company, ACT!, continuing to push the boundaries in Police & Military K9 training. His relentless commitment to advancing animal training and behaviorism underpins his ongoing efforts to equip trainers and their dogs for success. Simon Prins stands as a testament to his dedication to the field, continuously empowering people and their dogs to ascend to the next level of excellence.
